Southport: The Chic Holidays Resort for Elderly Brittish People

Southport is located about one hour (by train) away from Manchester: Leaving behind me very green and tidy neighbourhoods with houses and equally happy little gardens, I arrived at a beach-y (!) place with huge beaches and many elderly people, others standing there alone to gaze the ocean passing under the bridges, others seated in special cars going around happily and watching the few young men who crossed the street wearing colourful scarves. Pulling my suitcases behind me, I wondered what exactly is a "human city". Southport gave me the answer: "It is the city that eliminates the"social cost"and where people coexist with a smile showing understanding and tolerance for each other. Suitcases were heavy but draging them was not tiring because the sidewalks were huge. And not only that: There was a separate bridge for cars and a separate bridge for pedestrians and I was also having fun watching the controversial events that were happening all around me: At

I am standing at 08am at Amsterdam’s airport (Schiphol), waiting for my flight to Manchester. I watch all around those gorgeous, tall, Dutch Gods who are carrying trays of beer and French chips for… breakfast !!!  I am thinking to go against this very healthy trend and buy some fruits and yogurt so as to demonstrate all about “healthy morning diet”, but then I reconsider when I see the prices:  Five euros for five berries of grapes and two pieces of melon in a plastic cup which all that is called "fruit-shake". For a while I started dreaming of my little cute and chip country (Greece), where I can buy huge piles of oranges with just a few euros. I pay overall 8 euros while I know that I should push myself and drink my whole bottle of water before I board on the plane.  Meanwhile, a Dutch guy who is sitting next to me, is watching the airplanes flying, while leaking his fingers.  This must be a Dutch thing (leaking own fingers) while watching or discussing something intere

Travelling in Cambridge / June 2010

When I was 18 years old my dad told me “you are not going abroad, you have to enter in a Greek University” (was justified by my mum like “he wants you around”) I have respected his wish like a good daughter that believes that parents have always right. Now, 21 years later, I have had the opportunity to visit Cambridge on my way to South England.. My first thought when I looked at that place, was just that children should sometimes “not” listen to their parents... The second thought was that I would like to start my life again. And my third thought was that my children would definitely study in Cambridge. This place called “Cambridge” offers “auras”: An aura of sophistication, an aura of intellectualism, an aura of hard-working young people, an aura of naturalism, an aura of “elitism”. Walking around and glazing at all these camps and Colleges where young students are hosted, I had this impression that time has been stopped, that I live in old England, that everything around is espe
