Southport: The Chic Holidays Resort for Elderly Brittish People

Southport is located about one hour (by train) away from Manchester: Leaving behind me very green and tidy neighbourhoods with houses and equally happy little gardens, I arrived at a beach-y (!) place with huge beaches and many elderly people, others standing there alone to gaze the ocean passing under the bridges, others seated in special cars going around happily and watching the few young men who crossed the street wearing colourful scarves.

Pulling my suitcases behind me, I wondered what exactly is a "human city". Southport gave me the answer: "It is the city that eliminates the"social cost"and where people coexist with a smile showing understanding and tolerance for each other.

Suitcases were heavy but draging them was not tiring because the sidewalks were huge. And not only that: There was a separate bridge for cars and a separate bridge for pedestrians and I was also having fun watching the controversial events that were happening all around me:

At my left hand the elderly lady who was driving her small vehicle, enjoying all life she had left, at my right hand the skateboards of young people who were running crazily on special concrete ramps risking their lives they have left. The ice cream shops opposite to sex shops. The natural wildness of the ocean, calmed down under artificial, well made bridges. The combination of an indifferent shopping center with the variety of views of a huge ocean ..

We stayed at the "Premier Inn hotel". A chep hotel (€ 35 / room whether it is a single or double, provided that the reservation is an early one) and cleverly set up: it offers comfortable rooms for sleep and work, a very nice bathroom with tub, beautiful views and quietness. Meaning all that a decent budget hotel should provide. Beyond that, somebody could pay for the bath kit (if needed), the internet, breakfast, lunch, etc.

I have heard that the "Premier Inn" is a chain. A chain which I strongly recommend for your stay in beautiful England and provided that you're not from those who need a lot of "necessary stuff" to survive.

Finally, Southport was a small town and a tourist resort for English people that worths a visit if somebody would like to feel the way that summer feels in England. Or if somebody would like to fill his eyes with the huge beaches of the North Sea, merciless beaten by the wind and constantly change face..

We visited two amazing restaurants that I highly recommend (the «Bistrot Verite» and «The Barking Frog»), and a few pubs for classical beers-partying which is a “must” for somebody that visits England. We also visited one of the dozens of indoor entertaining areas available nearby, holding our stomach from laughter in the hall with distorting mirrors.

Train is easy, but it might worth leaving Southport by car. Because only then, you will be given the opportunity to see all these wonderful sites and towns going from Southport to Manchester. And when you finally arrive in Manchester, then you should definitely visit Horsley, the place where Posh people (commonly known as "chic") live. And, perhaps, you should stay in «Marriott hotel»: A magnificent Resort located in nature and respecting the surrounding architecture with a superb swimming pool, Spa and gym fanatically honoured by local residents.

And the prices?? Well, really low, when considering the madness that beats the price lists of 'chic' tourist and SPA resorts of Greece ...
